The heart of Kurulu Bay

Perched on one of the highest points of the property, The Kurulu House is where Kurulu Bay began.

Designed by renowned Sri Lankan architect Channa Daswatte, who trained under Geoffrey Bawa, the house brings together the language of 1960s Florida architecture with Bawa’s tropical modernist tradition. A high-ceilinged living space opens towards the surrounding landscape, while traditional materials and elements are woven throughout.

The Kurulu House was the first structure on the land. The rest of Kurulu Bay grew around it, following the natural contours of the property and the relationship between the jungle, the lake and the existing trees.

Surrounded by towering frangipani trees and overlooking Koggala Lake, the house is now used for yoga, Pilates, meditation, workshops and retreats.

The Kurulu House is not available for private stays or individual bookings. It is a shared space used for retreats, practices, and special experiences.
